Tuesday – The Goldfish Mosaic

Inspiration

The story of Tuesday began long before I created the mosaic. When I was little, I bought a fan tail goldfish on a Tuesday—its flowing shape and gentle beauty stuck with me for years. That memory eventually became the spark for this mosaic.

Materials & Process
Like most of my mosaics, Tuesday is built from a mix of reclaimed and unexpected materials. Tourist spoons form the shimmering scales, paired with tile, clear glass, circle tiles, paper, white buttons, and even battery covers. Each material brought its own texture and shine, helping me capture the liveliness of the fish. The process began with a paper layer and background tile to let the glass set. Then I moved to the positive area, where I sculpted and secured the spoons with epoxy to bring the fish to life. The mosaic measures roughly 36” x 45” and was completed just in time—the night before Stevens Point Festival of the Arts!

Exhibition & Recognition

Tuesday made its debut at the Stevens Point Festival of the Arts in Plover, Wisconsin, where I was was awarded Best of Show. It was the kind of recognition that validates all the late nights and risks of working with new materials. I’m proud to share that I’ll be returning to the festival again in 2026!

Reflection
Although Tuesday has since found a new home, it represents so much of what drives my work—creativity, freedom, and the support of people who believe in original art. I’m deeply appreciative of those who see the uniqueness in pieces like this, and it’s because of that support that I can keep creating new work and sharing it with the world.
