Lake Effect is a winter-themed exhibition at Thelma Arts Center that explores the quiet beauty, texture, and atmosphere shaped by snow, cold, and seasonal change. Featuring work by regional artists, the exhibition invites viewers to slow down and experience winter through thoughtful, material-driven interpretations inspired by the Midwest landscape.
The Lake Effect opening reception will take place on Friday, January 16, from 5:30–7:30 PM and is open to the public. The exhibition is on view during Thelma Arts Center’s regular gallery hours: Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 AM–4:00 PM. Visitors are encouraged to stop by, experience the exhibition in person, and enjoy one of the region’s most welcoming art spaces.
The exhibition includes my mosaic Heavy Snow, a more realistic interpretation of the trees surrounding our family cabin. Creating subtle shifts in value and texture within the snow was both challenging and rewarding, and the piece pushed my process while balancing a full-time teaching schedule. Working with the staff at Thelma continues to be a genuine pleasure—their professionalism, care for artists, and excellent facilities are reasons I’m always grateful to exhibit here.
